A sales funnel is a set of stages that guide your marketing and sales team through the journey from prospect to customer. Every funnel is different but the key to success is knowing your audience and providing them with exactly what they need to take that final step.
How to Use Sales Funnels to Generate Leads
There are many different methods that can be used to generate leads but the first step is always to create awareness. This can be done through a variety of ways including search engine optimisation, paid advertising and content marketing. Once your prospects have become aware of your brand they will move onto the next stage of the funnel which is to build interest. This can be done through various methods including infographics, podcasts, video livestreams and webinars. The most important thing to remember at this stage is that it’s better to educate your prospects than to push for a sale.
Now that your prospects have built an interest in your brand and products they are likely to begin evaluating if your product is right for them. This is where it’s important to continue nurturing them through a series of email campaigns. These can include everything from case studies to blog posts - with the sole purpose to highlight how your products and/or services can help your prospects' specific business challenges.
At this point your prospects should be ready to speak to one of your sales representatives. If they aren’t ready, it’s your sales reps' job to politely let them know that your product or service isn’t the right fit and to offer alternative solutions.
After a potential lead has spoken to a sales representative they may decide to become a customer. This is where a well-planned out and executed customer journey experience really comes into its own. Having an automated system that enables new customers to self-serve from start to finish is a great way to reduce your sales team’s workload while increasing the speed at which new customers can be converted.
When you create your own sales funnels with a platform that is simple to use, you can easily track the success of each individual step. This makes it easy to identify the steps that are working and those that need some improvement.
